Creating a community of healthcare managers as a new tool for building a talent pool

Abstract

Relevance. Finding new approaches to improving the human resources potential of the healthcare industry is becoming an increasingly important task, as there is a shortage of qualified management personnel, and ensuring their development and succession requires significant resources. This article describes the experience of creating and developing the professional community «Talent platform for healthcare managers» for the professionals at all levels from Russia and the CIS countries who are interested in professional and career growth, as one of the modern ways of working with management personnel.

The purpose of the study: description of the methodology for creating a community of healthcare managers as a new tool for forming a management talent pool using the example of the professional community «Talent platform for healthcare managers» of Russian Research Institute of Health (Next is the community).

Materials and methods. Descriptive analysis of the quantitative characteristics of the community of healthcare managers, including the dynamics of the number of participants, the number of events held for participants, and other characteristics, as well as sociological surveys of participants on changes in their position level over the past year and their satisfaction with participation in the professional community. All stages of community formation are also described in detail.

Results. Quantitative and qualitative indicators of the community’s activities are presented, as well as key data from sociological surveys conducted among community members regarding their career achievements and satisfaction with their participation in the community. The stages of community formation are described: attracting members; developing an application for participation; testing members; selecting and determining the status of members; developing a concept for the community’s functioning; implementing the concept and monitoring the community’s activities.

Conclusion. The experience of creating the «Talent platform for healthcare managers» community is of great practical value for the development of healthcare managers and can also be applied to other fields (e.g., education, culture, etc.). The project’s four-year operation and its annual addition of new participants have demonstrated its relevance among healthcare managers.
